The Eva Update!

Sorry ladies and gents, I did not post this weekend because I was quite under the weather. I am just starting to feel better and get the bounce back in my step and the wiggle back in my hips. I keep giving Miss Angela the sad puppy eyes, to let her know that I need extra lovins, I have asked for a TON of belly rubs, Miss Angela even kisses my belly, I’m not sure what I think of that but I let her do it anyway.

I wanted to talk a little bit more about my personality. I have my moments there is no doubt about that but what I don't do is resource guard. What is resource guarding you say?

It is when you get a special treat, toy, bone or food that you love so much that you get quite mean to other dogs when you are eating/playing/whatever with that particular item.

I am great with sharing! Max and I can play with the same toy at the same time and I am in heaven. Not all dogs can do this you see, but I'm a good girl and I love playing with my foster brother so much I wouldn't want the fun to stop.

I also can eat right next to Max and Moose and I never so much as think about growling at them. Now I did get sooo excited when Miss Angela was fixing the food once that I growled at Gizmo, she is one of the little ones. Gizmo is kind of mean to me anyway, but I guess it is her house and she thinks she is the Queen Bee, (even though she's only 8 pounds).

Sure she looks all cute an innocent, but she likes to growl at my and nip at my ears. That can get downright annoying! Miss Angela corrects her constantly, she doesn't want Miss Gizmo to be mean to me anymore than I do, so that helps, but no matter what I cannot lose my temper with the little ones because they are very little.

The other little one is Pullo, he is quite possibly the most annoying dog there ever was. He is Miss Angela's first dog and she loves him a bunch, but goodness he gets on my nerves. He barks constantly! Miss Angela works on his barking with him almost every day, but goodness it gets tiring. I hardly ever bark and it’s only when I am super duper excited. Here is a picture of the other "little one" doing what he does best; barking!

Some Thursday FUN!

Here is something a little fun, me wallering on the floor as a puppy:

Me wallering on the floor as an adult!

And no!  I don't just like to show my belly for rubs, I'm just a cheeky girl like that!

The rest of my story...then on to fun stuff!

The rest of my story up until this point is not so great either, but I want it to be told so we can move on to my bright happy future.

Miss Angela brought me down to Savannah, a young man put in an application to adopt me.  The young man had a nice home for me to stay in and he really seemed to want to adopt me.  Miss Angela wanted to make sure things were going to work out for me in this new home so she placed me in the home on a Foster to Adopt contract.  In the rescue world that means I stay with him for a few weeks to make sure it is a good fit before finalizing my adoption.

Everything went well for the first few weeks, then when Miss Angela went to follow up on me she could not get a hold of the young man.  He disconnected both of his phone numbers, she sent a letter but never heard a word, she called his boss in the Army, she called all of his references, she called the police and animal control.  Everyone told her there was nothing they could do because I am "property?"  WTF?  I am a living being!  She would have to file a civil claim in court in order to try and get me back.

Months went by and she heard absolutely nothing about me, she still tried to e-mail the young man, still nothing.

Then it happened, September 15th, 2009 the rescue got an e-mail from a nice young lady that was part of my original rescue.  I was at Chatham County Animal Control, I had been left abandoned in an apartment with another dog.  Even though they had all my vet paperwork CCAC would not release me until my stray hold was up, 10 whole days!  The stray hold was in place in case my "owner" showed up to reclaim me.  How could they put me and Miss Angela through that torture?

Finally on September 21st, 2009 Miss Angela came to pick me up, promptly at 1:00pm in the afternoon.  I was SO happy to see her, but something bad had happened to me.  You see, CCAC left me in a 3'3 kennel with another pit bull, I got attacked over the weekend and I had some open wounds on my head and tons of wounds along my neck.

I hopped into Miss Angela's car and we headed back to Summerville, I slept the whole way home!  She got me home and cleaned me up and put me on some medication to make sure I got all better.

I have almost forgotten what has happened to me, but I get scared around new dogs, I am afraid they might hurt me, like in the shelter.

I tend to be a little timid and skittish sometimes and even though it was a man that put me through this, I still love the guys!

Miss Angela feels like she failed me and she is determined to find me the best home possible so nothing bad will ever happen to me ever again.  I tell Miss Angela that I am just so happy that she loves me and us dogs, we are good at forgiving.

My Beginnings

This part of my story is a little sad but it needs to be told.  In the words of the people that found me:

"Eva came to us when the movie Wall-E opened.  She was the size of the palm of my hand.  She was almost a week old then (around June 30th, 2008).  We weren't sure what she was - dog or something else.  We saw right away she had a strong desire to live.  She has grown into a right beautiful young lady.  She is still very playful (e.g. kiss, kiss, nip, kiss).  She loves to play with the other dogs in our home.  She tolerates the cats.  She forgets they live here too and sometimes barks at them.  They don't think twice about it and let her sniff them.  She gets bored and leaves them alone.  She's very smart.  She sits while eating her dinner and sits when getting treats.  Besides coming on command, she also sits on command.  She shares a doggie bed with the Chihuahua.  She also loves chasing the soccer ball with the kids.  She hasn't quite mastered making the goal yet.  Our family has grown quite fond of Miss Diva Eva or Eva the Diva.  She will steal your heart if you let her kiss you.  You've been warned!"

Miss Angela and I want to thank this wonderful family so much for saving me, I really do love and live life to the fullest and it would not have been possible without these kind souls.  Here are some pictures that my very first family took of me:

One of my first pictures at the shelter:

Once I was back to health I came to South Carolina Pit Bull Rescue, I tried one foster home that did not work out for me.  You see, being removed from my mom and littermates so young I didn't know how to act around other dogs.  I beat up a BIG pit bull at my first foster home, the poor guy was just too much of a softy for me.

Here is a picture of me in my first foster home, (clearly I have grown into the ears):

I then went to stay at Miss Angela's house, I still had my issues but her dogs would not put up with my bad attitude.  This is where I first met Max, Max was still a puppy himself when I met him but he helped me learn to be a good little lady.  He didn't get upset with me when I snapped at him, he kept playing with me, even if I was being mean and eventually I learned how to play like a normal puppy with him.

Here is a picture of me the first time around at Miss Angela's house, (I was such a CUTE puppy!).

That concludes the first part of my journey, there will be more to come!

Love,
The Diva

My best furry pals!

The "boys" Max and Moose have helped me get my temper under control and I love to play with both of them.

They are the best of friends, sometimes they just lay next to each other on the floor.  Sometimes...

Max kisses Moose, he is definitely one of the lickiest dogs you will ever meet.  He wants to lick EVERYBODY, fur or skin, he doesn't care he just wants to give kisses.  Sometimes they...

...wrestle with each other and the times I like the best...

...is when all three of us wrestle!  These two are my best friends, they have helped me so much and it is pretty clear that I love them.

Me and my boys, waiting patiently for some yummy treats from Miss Angela.

They think I'm a what?

There is so much confusion amongst Bully Breeds but we are all a little different.  My rescue family thinks I am a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  I saw a picture of one though and I have to agree:

I do look quite a bit like this guy! I have decided I don't really like what the "breed" experts have to say about my breed, so let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I am quite athletic like they say, Miss Angela has a 3 foot fence around her back patio and I can clear that thing like nobody’s business. I then wait patiently at the door for her to notice me. Sometimes she is less than happy with me when I do this and puts me back out in the yard, but it’s just so much FUN! I can clear the baby gates in the house too, but I don't because that definitely makes Miss Angela unhappy.

Some people say my breed is stubborn but I am a pretty easy gal to get along with. I don't always listen to Miss Angela, but who doesn't slip up from time to time? I am very smart and learn very fast, I love to be praised and given treats, that is how I learn the fastest.

I walk like a lady on the leash, no pulling or acting crazy for me, it’s just not my style!

One of the things I love to do when I am happy is talk to Miss Angela and Mr Matt, I love to tell them how happy I am that they are treating me the way I deserve to be treated!

Introducing Me! The Diva!

Hi! My name is Eva and like the title says I am quite the Diva. I thought the bully breed lovers out there might like to know a little more about my story and the day to day happenings of my life.  Instead of going into my history quite yet, I wanted to let you know where I am in my life right now.

This is a picture of me taken a little over a month ago when I first came to live at Miss Angela's house.

As you can see I am quite the happy little girl now.  I am right around a year old and so thankful for all the luxuries I currently have.  I live in a big beautiful house with Miss Angela and the love of my life Mr Matt.  I also have some foster brothers and sisters that I love, love, love to play with.

I am your typical girl and I have my moments, some might even say I am a bit of a *itch, I AM a female dog!  I try to keep myself under control and Miss Angela lets me know when I start to get too excited, her voice calms me down immediately and boy am I glad, it is so embarassing to lose my temper!

Well that is just a little bit about me, more next time!
